Guadalupe Partners were at both abortuaries Good Friday and Holy Saturday. One mother and child were rescued from Summit on Friday, thanks be to God. Two might have been rescued from AFP on Saturday. That abortuary had, in fact, only two appointments Saturday. Those two left at about 8:30, and the place then closed at about 9:00.
All in all, Saturday was one of the craziest days I’ve ever experienced in Detroit. One of the workers at Summit brandished a stick at my wife; a mother taking her daughter in for an abortion stood on the building’s little front porch and preached to us about choice and about how the Bible refers to the newly conceived infant Jesus as a “thing.” After breakfast at La Rosita, as we prepared to head out in three different directions to make deliveries, we discovered that Sandy’s brand new van had been struck in the left front fender and badly damaged. Apparently, a mechanic from the shop across the street had pulled out of his parking lot, a truck coming down McGraw had swerved to avoid him, went over the curb, through a fence and right into Sandy’s van. Both drivers remained on the scene, and long and involved discussions went on for almost 2 hours, but the police never came. My daughter and I ducked out at one point to make a couple of deliveries in Mexican town. We passed a Toyota Camry in flames on I-75; then a drug bust taking place farther down on McGraw. Finally we just drove over to the police station and filed a report there. Neither of the two actually responsible for the accident would accompany us.
Meanwhile, a friend did a thorough inspection of Ana and Carmelo’s house and found dangers of lead in the water and asbestos in the heating ducts. My son and I laid subflooring in two rooms on Thursday–but so much more needs to be done! And so many more workers!
