Spiritually and emotionally it is hard enough standing outside of an abortion clinic.  It becomes even more difficult when you see a mother crying as she walks towards the entrance.  We saw three of these mothers at the Summit.  Moments like these make you forget about being tired, about being cold and about being away from home on a Saturday morning.  You can’t help but feel part of their pain.  It draws us sidewalk counselors into deeper prayer because we know that a troubled soul is fertile ground, but also quite vulnerable.  I rarely feel closer to the Lord than at those moments of deep prayer when lives and souls are at stake.  This Saturday one of those souls, Jewel, resisted the temptation of killing her child and bravely came out and sought our help.  Her sister, who had put on the tough persona, slowly softened as we offered our support for Jewel and her baby.

Even though we should have felt intimidated by the thought of having to meet all of Jewel’s many needs, we did not.  We only felt the joy that one feels when responding to God’s will.
