Our ranks have been thinned out for the summer. Marie lost her father in California, and so traveled out there last week to be with her family and to attend the funeral. One who was emerging as a very fine sidewalk counselor, Donna, has taken a job in Florida. Kristine is also in California, visiting family for most of July. And our lead sidewalk counselor, Alicia, has surgery on Wednesday to remove a cyst on her vocal chord. How ironic that our no. 1 sidewalk counselor will temporarily lose her voice.
But I know that sometimes God cripples us so that we don’t get too carried away with our own strength. If I find that I am getting frsustrated because we seem to be losing our “effectiveness” or our “efficiency,” I remind myself that whatever good we can do is always a great privilege. I should not presume to have the power to save lives: that’s God’s work.
Several turn-aways at American Family Planning this week. I noticed that they have cut their staff from 4 to 3, and they are not doing the business that they used to do. Please pray.
