Last week we made a half-hearted decision to attend a Spanish-speaking charismatic conference at which Alicia had been invited to speak. For us, it meant a long day in the Detroit area, away from our respective homes. We did not know, however, that a woman from Columbus was on her way to the same conference–a woman who a couple weeks earlier had attempted a home-made chemical abortion of her own child. At the conference she was told by a priest to go and listen to the woman (Alicia) about to speak. She did so, then later contacted Alicia by phone. She explained that she had tried to kill the child because after her husband had been deported she had become pregnant by another man. We are offering refuge to her until the child is born.
This week the Guadalupe Partners were at two clinics. From now on at least three to four of us will be at the Summit abortuary on McNichols in Detroit. It was baptism by fire for the Partners who were there yesterday, who estimated that at least 20 clients went in for abortion appointments. One couple, however, did call us afterwards, having changed their minds. The Summit abortuary does not have its own parking lot. This makes a great opportunity for sidewalk counselors–though it also means that they have to cover a lot of territory. I anticipate we are going to need more help there, from sidewalk counselors and from those committed to prayer support. Please consider it.
