October 19, 2008

Chris, the street preacher who spends most of his days outside of American Family Planning, got the phone number of a woman coming in to make an abortion appointment.  He gave the number to two of the Partners who, on Thursday, took her for an ultrasound.  She is definitely decided against the abortion, but will be needing assistance from us for the next few months.  Saturday at the abortuary there were four appointments.  We failed to engage any of them in conversation; it was an extrememly passive group of people–unlike the woman we met last week.  Initially, she was very angry at us, but at the same time she did want to argue.  Two of our number talked with her at the side of the parking lot, and the next time I saw her, her atttitude had definitely come ful circle.  She promised she was going to talk to her pastor about having members of her church join us.

While sitting at the restaurant for our usual late breakfast/discuss the morning session, a Hispanic woman approached our table and said she wanted to thank us for what we had done for her.  It took a lot of memory jogging for me to finally realize who she was.  We had helped her turn away form the abortuary more than two years ago.  As a matter of fact, we had given her a Honda Accord (now that I remember).  She told us she was married in May and that all was going very well for her.
