What do you make of this?
For the past week, we have been in occasional contact with a woman who originally came to the mill for “information,” but who also gave us her number so that we were able to reach her. She came again Saturday, demonstrated hostility this time, but did, again, leave. In later phone contact she told us she had an abortion appointment for Monday. When a snow day was called for Monday, we decided to go to the mill and make one more try. At 8:50, accordingly, we were watching the cars pull into the parking lot and were approaching that day’s appointments. By 9:00 all the appointments were in–and by 9:05 all the appointments were out. One of the women told us that the “doctor” had been snowed in and all appointments were cancelled. We were very relieved, especially since our contact had not shown up. We remained a few more minutes, when a Dearborn squad car pulled up in front of the clinic. The first client to enter the building had set off an alarm. He pulled on the door to enter, but the door was locked. He walked around the building and found an employee sitting in her truck–where, apparently, she had been sitting the whole time. The clinic manager pulled up about five minutes later; and, weirdly, the abortionist arrived at his usual time. Who unlocked the front door without disarming the alarm? Who gave the apparently false information that the abortionist was snowed in? All we know is that there were no abortions at American Family Planning that day.
We were in Detroit Sunday evening as well. (Snow? What snow?) We met with a boyfriend who was pressuring his girlfriend to abort. It was a good talk. We are going to help him provide for his family in Guatemala. He is going to be a father to his child.
