October 1, 2007

While Friday was very slow, on Saturday about seven cars pulled into the parking lot right before 8:00. One of the cars acted hesitantly; it pulled into the lot, remained there about a minute, backed out, headed into the alley then crossed over to the parking lot of the party store. One of our sidewalk counselors walked over to the car and absorbed the driver in conversation for about a half hour. Finally, the driver moved away from the counselor, crossed the street and entered the abortion mill. Soon our counselor, too, came back over, looking somewhat grieved that she had lost the woman. My hunch, though, was that, having gone in a half hour late, she would soon be out again–which she was, in about ten minutes. Meanwhile our counselor had told us some of the woman’s issues, among which was financial strain and inability to put enough food in the house. I recommended that she approach the car one more time and offer to deliver groceries to her house that very day. She did so–and the next thing I knew, she, the mother and another one of our sidewalk counselors were all getting in the same car to drive out to the pregnancy help center. An ultrasound and follow-up counseling was done, and we will be helping the woman with some pressing bills.

The day after tomorrow I am taking ten eighth graders into Detroit to fix windows on M.’s house. We will first go to the abortion mill to pray a rosary. It’s a given that the police will be called; the abortion mill hates any kind of pressure from the sidewalk. Last week they called the police when holy water and blessed salt were spread around the abortuary. While the police were there, one of the clients pointed to Chris, who pickets there every day, and accused him of tapping on her window. Other prolifers there testified that they didn’t see him do anything of the sort, but he was ticketed anyway.
