Friday afternoon I received a “picture message” on my phone. When I opened it, I saw an ultrasound image of a perfectly formed little baby. The text under the message read, “Hi, Mr. Miller! I am alive! And I waived hi to everybody, sucked my thumb and smiled. ” The picture message was the report from the Partners who had gone out that morning and who had taken a young Hispanic couple to the crisis pregnancy center for an ultrasound. I hope to get the picture mounted on the web page. It’s one of the clearest ultrasound images I have ever seen. The success, however, was not without its pains. One of the Partners, during the morning vigil at the abortion mill, was accused of blocking the driveway. Three squad cars responded. Yes, three.

On Saturday morning a Hispanic couple that has already come to the abortuary two other times came again. And left again, looking very agitated. The week before, the young man said he was a Christian, but he seems more obsessed about our Christian behavior than about his own. (When we challenged him to behave as a true father and a real man, he said we showed no mercy.) Otherwise, there were no more than three abortions Saturday. As usual, later in the morning we split up and made deliveries. My task for the morning was to visit a mother whom we turned away from the abortuary about six months ago. Somehow, she has racked up a DTE bill of over $1,100. Her apartment conditions also leave much to be desired. Because of a gas leak, she cooks on a hot plate, has an electric short in one of her baseboard heaters, and sleeps on a mattress on the living room floor. Can anyone help with any of these matters? We’d like to get her a pull-out sofa for the living room.
