So busy this week I forgot my sister’s birthday. Sorry, Carol.
The Arabic woman did keep her abortion appointment. Her husband was resolute on killing the child. So abortion once again fulfills the promises of radical feminism.
Business was slow at the abortuary on Friday–fortunately, because only two Guadalupe Partners were able to go that morning. Afterwards we went to visit M., whose infant daughter had been taken to the hospital two days earlier because of repeated vomiting with blood. Physicians could find no answers, could offer no help. The vomiting did, eventually, stop. We also took $200.00 to R., our usual monthly gift to her. She’s a 40 year-old mom with several other children. Her baby was born about a month ago. She seemed very proud that her daughter is putting on lots of good weight.
On Saturday morning, a crowd had gathered on front of the abortuary door 20 minutes before opening. Instead of “preaching” to the whole group, each Partner singles out a waiting woman or couple, and tries to hold a quiet, almost whispered conversation. Eventually, several women did leave. We were especially happy that a Hispanic mother, daughter and boyfriend left. The boyfriend seemed disappointed, but the mother, or the grandmother of the unborn child, was happy, and she promised to call us.
After breakfast, Alicia and I took a mother for a noon appointment for an ultrasound. This mother had gone to the abortion clinic several weeks ago, but did not have the abortion and finally resolved to call the number printed on the flyer someone outside the abortuary had given her. The baby was about 17 weeks old. He was very active, twisting and turning, showing us all perspectives on his perfection. When we took this mother home, I asked her for one favor, that if she ever heard of a woman seeking abortion. she would give that woman our number. At that point C. pointed out the woman sitting on the porch next door. I went over, introduced myself to P., listened to her story, and we promised her our help. She, at this point, is considering adoption.
And we did make an appointment for the young mother with the hearing loss. She has no insurance. I don’t know how any of this will play out, but she and her mother are both so happy that someone, after all these years, is paying attention.
